Back from Idaho & Montana

Without getting into too many of the details, my trip to Idaho & Montana gave me an opportunity to work on shooting mostly in Monochrome. I enjoy shooting monochrome and set these tones up within the camera.

I am using a Tiffen Polarizing filter to achieve some of the "Ghosting" effects with the sun rays.

One of the few color shots I took on the trip. The mist coming off the "Madi" really adds to the feel of this image and makes it one of my favorites.

Jason Haslam hooked into a nice fish in this scene. I was able to catch a nice sun flare with the rod bent!

A Tinge of Blue - Fly Fishing Photography

I apologize for not staying more up to date with the blog. I have been so busy between football coaching my sons team, fly fishing, and the home front.

Here are a few shots and examples I put together for some friends.

I love the tinge of blue in the fin!

I went back and re-looked through some of the photos I had taken of Jason Haslam from a prior trip this past summer. A couple of these shots are pending publication.

One of my goals this coming new year is to include some additional drift boat & float trips to my portfolio.

Wood On The Green

Getting the "Woodie" out on some moving water was long overdue! It could not have come sooner with how crazy things have been the past couple of months. Making a trip to the Green and sticking a few fish definitely renewed the soul.

I will not lie and let you all know that I was nervous about rowing. I have spent time on the flat water getting familiar with my boat. Rowing a drift boat is one thing, doing it while a couple of Fish Rats are huckin bugs and trying to read water is somewhat of an art form. I watched several experienced guides make it look so simple and natural. Rather quite humbling actually.

Colby D. coached me through a couple of rapids and was my eyes for the trip pointing out different things and letting me know where to put him on the water. I learned a lot.

Jason & Nick kickin back.

Some Older Shots Revisited

As I was working on an assignment this past week I started to think about all the fishing trips I have done with the kids. I plucked a couple of photos from the archives and reworked them a bit.

Hopefully "Rockstar-Caddis" approves (aka. Clint Goodman). These shots were taken a couple years ago when I bought my first drift boat and we had the Sliderite out on the pond. The sunset was just awesome.

To this day Raegan still talks about this fish we caught out of the driftboat.

Drifting With The Kids - Fly Fishing The Pond

We took the boat out to the pond last night. I had a blast hanging out with the kids. I watched them fish, and got a kick out of seeing Brig on the stix.

We did not catch anything but I do not think they cared. The kids were to busy having fun on the water. This is what it is all about. I took some photographs, I will never forget.

An Evening of Fly Fishing

I love late Summer fly fishing. There is just something about the air, the smell and the Fall season beginning to creep in.

It was a lot of fun watching Trav and "D" land some fish. I spent time looking around and taking photographs. The cool water felt good and the evening was filled with Caddis.

"D" landed a very nice Brown. A perfect way to end the evening.

As I walked back to our parked car I grinned. Our two cars were the only ones on the road. We had a moment all to ourselves!

Hopper Love - Late Summer Fly Fishing

I had a great time fly fishing into the evening hours. The hopper's this year have been thick. Here is a series of shots taken riverside.

I do not own a macro lens so I did my best to capture these guys up close.
